Tallinna Vesi renewed the gold quality label in the Responsible Business Index received in 2021. The renewed gold quality label is valid until May 2025. The Responsible Business Index is a development tool that helps to assess the social responsibility of an organization in terms of environment, society and economy (ESG-environmental, social, governance).
Tallinna Vesi is the largest water utility in Estonia, providing water and sewerage services to nearly one third of the Estonia’s population. The renewed gold quality label is a very important recognition for the company and a testament to our work of producing and delivering high-quality drinking water and collecting wastewater and stormwater in a sustainable manner.
As a socially responsible company, we focus our activities on increasing positive input – both in the social environment and community, in the work environment, as well as in nature and in the market environment. Tallinna Vesi operates in an environmentally friendly manner, seeking to minimize the environmental impacts arising from the activities of the company. Our environmental objectives, aspects and policy can be found on our website.
Tallinna Vesi deems responsible business extremely important
Since 2012, we have been preparing a report on social responsibility and sustainable development following the international GRI sustainability reporting standard. Since 2026, our report on social responsibility and sustainable development has been integrated into our annual report. We have also linked our activities to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
We aim to minimize negative impacts on the environment, maintain high quality and achieve results that exceed the quality standards set for treated effluent returned to the Baltic Sea. We consistently strive to promote environmental thinking and awareness among our community members. We encourage people to drink tap water and explain how to manage wastewater in an environmentally friendly way.
In the coming years, the company is significantly increasing its investments, to ensure additional reliability and reduce the risk of possible pollution incidents in the future. Additionally, we have also started to measure our carbon footprint. The first measurement was done for 2020 and the next for 2022. In two years, we have reduced our carbon footprint by 39%, mainly due to the transition to green electricity. At the end of 2022, the Management Board approved a climate impact reduction plan in which we set ourselves specific and measurable targets.
We deem it important to be involved and express our opinion on the issues that are relevant in society, and to contribute to the development of areas related to our activity and drafting of legal acts. To these purposes, we have joined and become a founder member of various associations. Tallinna Vesi is a member of Green Tiger, Estonian Association for Environmental Management, Corporate Social Responsibility Forum in Estonia, Estonian Waterworks Association, Estonian Taxpayers Association, and Baltic Institute of Corporate Governance.
